Mark

Practice Owner (Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Qld), MANZCVS, GradDipSc)

Mark grew up in far western Queensland and NT on extensive cattle stations. Upon graduating he took up his first vet job in Dorrigo in 1983. Later that year he was the sole vet at the Dorrigo practice, and ultimately bought the practice in 1986. Since then he has moved "down the hill" to Bellingen to concentrate more on "smallies" after many years working on "largies". He has had various stints away overseas over the years working in the UK in an equine practice, on the foot and mouth outbreak, and a large mixed practice in 2005, as well 15 months in Trinidad lecturing in surgery at the veterinary school.

His great thirst for knowledge and continual improvement, has led him all over the globe regularly attending conferences and seeking out new ideas and viewpoints. He has a special interest in the unfolding world of laser therapy and digital thermography in veterinary medicine. Client education through informed objective advice to deliver better health, welfare and general well-being outcomes for animals has been a driving force throughout his veterinary career.

Outside of work Mark is a keen gardener, bird watcher, runner, bushwalker, photographer and traveller. He lives in Dorrigo with his wife Elizabeth, Foxie the dog and Hiphoppoobum the cat. Their 4 children, who all grew up in the Bellingen Shire, are scattered from Newcastle to Sydney.

Quote: "Any animals, be they domestic or wild, that do not have a sound relationship with a human or humans are bound for extinction. If no one cares they will be gone - such are humans."

Joanne

Veterinary Nurse (Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing )

Growing up in Tamworth, Jo's childhood dream was to become a vet. Although that wasn't to be, animals have always been a large part of her life. Instead, Jo's professional life has included a range of vocations from graphic artist to massage therapist. It wasn't until her beautiful kids had grown up that she pursued her childhood love for animals and completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Jo has also completed extra studies in Anaesthesia & Fluid Therapy and loves to keep up to date on the latest Veterinary developments.

Jo has been at Bellingen Vet Hospital since 2013 and loves every minute of her job - she falls in love every day with one patient or another. She is fascinated with all things anatomy and has a keen interest in Laser Therapy and Pain Management. Jo believes the bond we share with our pets is very special and feels privileged to be able to care for other people's precious animals. Being passionate about using fear-free techniques, she takes extra measures to ensue that her patients are comfortable and safe during their visits to BVH

Jo spends her spare time on her SUP board with her three Border Collies, camping and creating artistic masterpieces.
