In April nurses Camilla and Joanne travelled to Brisbane to attend the 25th Annual Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia Conference.

The conference is designed the bring together veterinary nurses from all over Australia.

It is the only Australian conference that is dedicated directly to Veterinary Nursing, and is designed to keep nurses up to date with the latest veterinary education and skills.

The theme for this years conference was ‘Reach For The Stars’.

 

The conference included:

  • 1 hour lectures presented by subject matter experts

  • 15 minute case reports presented by veterinary nurses

  • 2 hour workshops providing practical skills across a range of topics

  • Poster presentations

  • Panel sessions to discuss the hot topics in vet nursing.

Some topics covered included:

  • Anaesthesia of the young and old

  • Acute kidney disease in cats and dogs

  • Emergency Management

  • Hypothermia in the anaesthetised patient

  • Nursing care for the diabetic cat

Also various hands on workshops, The Angel Rivera Inaugural Case Reports and checking out the exhibit hall for all the latest veterinary gadgets.

The conference included guest speakers and lecturers from all around the world including Dr. Phillip Judge from ‘Vet Education’ in Australia and Veterinary Technicians Ken Yagi and Harold Davis Jr from America.
